Omah Lay – I AM

Omah Lay turns self confidence into the centre of I AM, an Afropop record from his CLARITY OF MIND album. It is playful, cocky and personal, with the singer making no attempt to hide his sense of self.

The title sounds almost too simple, but that is what makes it work. “I AM” is about knowing yourself and being comfortable enough to say it without seeking approval. Omah Lay takes that idea into everyday territory, talking about his appeal, his lifestyle, money, and the thoughts he keeps to himself. There is confidence here, but there is also a glimpse of the private mind behind it.

Produced by Lekaa Beats, the record has the loose, melodic character that suits Omah Lay’s voice. The rhythm keeps moving without crowding him, while the repeated hook gives the track its identity. His vocal approach changes between playful confidence and a more guarded tone when he touches on the thoughts in his head. That switch is one of the more interesting parts of the record because it stops the song from becoming just a long exercise in self-praise.

I AM appears as the tenth track on CLARITY OF MIND, released through KeyQaad and Sire Records. Lekaa Beats is credited as the producer, with Omah Lay credited for vocals and songwriting.
