Icona Pop – Yellow Top

Icona Pop are back doing what they do best on Yellow Top, a Swedish electropop record that arrives with the kind of instant feel-good energy that made them impossible to ignore when they first broke through and has not really gone anywhere since.

These artists moves on a bright, synth-driven production with a melody that lodges itself in your head almost immediately and a vocal delivery that sounds genuinely excited to be there rather than just professionally committed to the performance. The record has that specific brand of carefree pop energy that Icona Pop have always carried well and Yellow Top sits right in the middle of everything that has made their sound work across different eras and different trends.

Icona Pop broke internationally with I Love It and have spent the years since proving that moment was a reflection of who they are rather than a lucky accident, continuing to release music that connects with people who want pop that actually sounds like it was made by people enjoying themselves. They are one of those acts where the catalogue holds up better than you might expect and new releases like this one just add to a body of work that has more to it than most casual listeners realise.

It is the kind of track that earns its place on a summer playlist without having to campaign for it, just turns up and makes everything around it feel a bit more alive than it did before.

Listen and Enjoy!
